There’s something special happening at Periwinkle Park on Sanibel, and it’s all about bringing our island’s natural beauty back to life. The family-owned park has teamed up with the Sanibel-Captiva Conservation Foundation (SCCF) to encourage residents to plant native trees, shrubs, and flowers—helping our unique island environment thrive.
“We’re working together to restore and care for the natural spaces that make Sanibel such a sanctuary,” shared David Muench, General Manager of Periwinkle Park. “It’s about preserving what makes our home so special for everyone—people and wildlife alike.”
With guidance from SCCF’s Native Landscapes & Garden Center, Periwinkle Park has recently added hundreds of native plants around the property. These new plantings are already making a difference, creating welcoming habitats for butterflies, songbirds, gopher tortoises, and even the occasional bobcat.
Residents and visitors alike are noticing the positive changes, as the Park’s green spaces bounce back and wildlife returns. It’s a true community effort, and a sign that when neighbors work together, our island can grow even stronger and more beautiful.
