BIG ARTS has announced the winners of the juried exhibit entitled “Create-Inspire-Connect.” The winners were chosen from the 62 works selected by the BIG ARTS Visual Arts Committee that juried the show. In total, 110 artists submitted 205 pieces of artwork in response to BIG ARTS call to artists for its first juried exhibit in the new Dunham Family Gallery. Submissions came in from around the world, including Bogota, Columbia, and Nyon, Switzerland, and from many local and Southwest Florida artists who shared some of the finest, most diverse work seen at BIG ARTS.
The “Create, Inspire, Connect” exhibit title mirrors BIG ARTS 2021 Season theme which celebrates the vital role the arts play in reflecting our shared humanity and the healing power of community and creativity. The show can be viewed on site by a limited number of people at a time Tuesdays through Fridays between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. The exhibit will also be open on Sundays from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. beginning on October 18. You can also visit the show online in BIG ARTS 3D virtual gallery at bigarts.org.
First place was awarded to Elanor Domink for her piece “Veneration.” Second place went to Del Holt for his work “Still Life with Peas.” Third place was awarded to Joel Shapses for his sculpture “Spiral of Life.” Honorable mentions were awarded to Bobbi Baugh for her piece “Adrift,” Cheryl Fausel for her piece “A View of the Lake,” and Richard Sabin for his piece “Red Carnation.”
To maintain a safe environment for our guests, volunteers, and staff, BIG ARTS is limiting the number of people allowed in the gallery to a maximum of 30 at any given time. Masks are required to enter the building, and visitors are asked to be mindful of social distancing. For more information, contact the BIG ARTS box office at 239-395-0900.
