BIG ARTS has launched a new virtual gallery on their website BIGARTS.org featuring seven up-and-coming artists who are alumni of Florida SouthWestern State College. The exhibit titled “Fast Forward” is curated by Dana Roes, Chair of Humanities and Fine Arts at FSW. The exhibit showcases a wide variety of styles and mediums and features works by alumni Martha De la Cruz, Dalton Howard, Alejandro Gómez Hernandez, Claire Malécot, Leila Mesdaghi, Kirsten Pettifor, and B.A. Wikoff. In addition to seeing the exhibit in person, visitors can navigate through a high-definition 3D rendering of the gallery to view the works  and learn more about the artists.

“The virtual galleries are a great way for us share these wonderful young artists and their work  with a much wider audience,” said Programs and Gallery Manager Lauren Huff. “Many of our patrons are seasonal, and the virtual gallery allows them to experience our summer exhibits and share them with their friends back home.”

The exhibit is a multi-media exhibition in which the artists imagine the future from the vantage point of our historically turbulent and uncertain time. The work on display ranges from pieces as personal as sewing together one’s cultural and familiar heritage to work that explores the wider world and interrogates colonialism and income inequality. One piece in the exhibition offers solutions to competitive occupations through an alternative game of chess where players work collaboratively to turn pawns into queens.

“Fast Forward” can be viewed in the Dunham Family Gallery between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday.  One can also view the exhibit any time by visiting BIGARTS.org. BIG ARTS is located at 900 Dunlop Road on Sanibel. For more information, please call the box office at 239-395-0900 or visit BIGARTS.org.
