The Captiva Civic Association (CCA) will host its first art show of the 2025-2026 season, “Tides & Times,” featuring local artists Shane Antalick and Lafe James. CCA invites the community to the opening reception on Thursday, November 20, from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at the Captiva Civic Center, 11550 Chapin Lane. The event will include light fare and refreshments and is free to attend. CCA’s 2025-2026 season is sponsored by Karen Bell and the Bell Team, Michael Saunders and Company and the art series is sponsored by Bank of the Islands.
The exhibition will run from November 20th through December 19th, and the gallery is open Monday through Friday, 10:00 a.m.—1:00 p.m.
Tides and Times explores the contrast between Shane Antalick’s vivid, modern photography of the natural world and Lafe James’s vintage Florida-inspired imagery, handprinted on wood. The artists share a common coastal theme—Antalick’s work highlights bright seascapes, while James reimagines nostalgic visuals of Florida’s past. Tides and Times celebrates the enduring artistry found in nature and the ways landscape shapes our sense of place.

More on the artists:
Shane Antalick is an accomplished photographer, surfer, and explorer. Antalick, who was born and raised on Sanibel Island, captures stories that encourage people to think about their connection to the natural world and their role in their communities.
Layered by these outdoor, adventure, commercial, surf, and lifestyle subjects, Antalick is known for images that evoke emotion and inspire others to explore for themselves.
His visionary perspective has earned him opportunities to work with Fortune 500 clients, Olympic athletes, political figures, authors, and musicians.
At the age of 32, Antalick has established himself in the photographic world and even has a photo ON the moon. He is happiest with his wife Bryli adventuring around the globe to share the next best wave together.
Lafe James’ wood prints are crafted entirely by hand through a multi-step process that balances intention with unpredictability. Each piece begins with the creation of an image, printed on paper and then transferred to the wood surface by hand – not by machine. Sanding and washing reveal textures that feel raw and weathered, echoing the look of sun, salt, and time.
The work is then completed with either carved edges or a deep, charred wood frame, accented with subtle embellishments for a classic touch. This layered process produces pieces with a distinctly vintage character, each one imperfect, unrepeatable, and alive, celebrating both imperfection as beauty and the timeless spirit of Florida.
