The Sanibel-Captiva Rotary is proud to announce the recipient of a $4,800 Rotary District Grant to Community Housing Resources, CHR. Even three years after Hurricanes Ian, Milton and Helene, there is a still unmet need to support the infrastructure of the residents’ homes. CHR will use the funds to improve accessibility to three of its properties by replacing staircases leading to residents’ homes. In CHR’s grant application, they noted the need for Rotary’s assistance was critical to assisting CHR make the repairs since the request does not align with funding opportunities currently available through public and private sources. The proposed staircase repairs will be made using the most eco-friendly sustainable materials and will be installed to accommodate accessibility needs of current and future residents. Buildings owned by CHR will have all stairs replaced, railings, and safety landings made of composite materials installed.

Since 1979, CHR has provided safe, quality, affordable housing for families and individuals who work in and serve our island communities. Retail workers, service staff, even teachers and first responders and more may not earn enough for a place to call home. By tackling this need, CHR helps people realize their full potential. Working together with varied stakeholders, CHR aims to sustain the well-being of our islands’ people, building a strong, caring, and resilient community for all.

Rotary District grants fund small-scale, short-term activities that address needs in our community and communities abroad. In 2023-2024, Rotary awarded 485 District Grants totaling $30 million. As Rotarians, we provide service to others, promote integrity, and advance world understanding, goodwill, and peace through our fellowship of business, professional, and community leaders. Rotary is a global network of more than 1.2 million neighbors, friends, leaders, and problem-solvers who see a world where people unite and take action to create lasting change – across the globe, in our communities, and in ourselves. Sanibel-Captiva Rotary Club achieves this with engaging meetings, events, and service opportunities, together with our support of non-profit organizations, our members and our community.
