Devastating. It’s the only way to describe the impact of Hurricane Milton.
Milton roared ashore on Wednesday night, striking Siesta Key at Category 3 with winds exceeding 100 miles per hour. Sixty-five miles south of the storm’s center, Sanibel and Captiva endured a strong storm surge driven by winds nearing 70 miles per hour.
Milton also dumped an incredible amount of rain on our islands.
CHR is just beginning to assess the aftermath, including damage to our facilities.
Thankfully, our residents were safely evacuated ahead of the storm. Also, we will be reaching out to community leaders to do our part to help in recovery. We will keep you up to date on our process.
Meanwhile, we know we’ll need resources to repair our facilities, return residents to their homes, and get back to our mission of ensuring safe, quality, affordable housing.
The double whammy of Helene and Milton makes that mission more critical than ever.
CHR desperately needs your help! Please make a tax-deductible gift today to Community Housing & Resources.
