Community Housing and Resources (CHR) extends gratitude to former board member Laura DeBruce for her generous support in allowing CHR to utilize her powerful documentary, “On Sanibel: Hurricane Diaries,” as a fundraiser aimed at providing affordable housing for our workforce and residents.
The screening of Laura’s film, which poignantly captures the resilience and unity of our community in the aftermath of a devastating storm, has proven to be a remarkable success. Thanks to the generosity of attendees and supporters, CHR raised over $10,000 during the event, funds that will directly contribute to our ongoing efforts to secure affordable housing solutions for those in need on Sanibel and Captiva Islands.
“On Sanibel: Hurricane Diaries” is more than just a film; it is a testament to the strength of our community bonds in the face of adversity. “I am delighted to use the power of storytelling to showcase the resilience and strength of this small town,” said Laura, “and I am especially pleased that we raised money for CHR, the heart of our community. My thanks go out to Kate Sergeant and Diana Taylor who worked with me during the year after the storm to put this film together.”
“We are honored to have had the opportunity to showcase Laura’s work and to rally our community around such a vital cause,” said Nicole Decker-McHale, Executive Director of CHR. “This fundraising event not only highlighted the importance of affordable housing but also celebrated the spirit of resilience that defines Sanibel Island.”
Community Housing and Resources remains committed to its mission of providing safe, affordable housing options for our workforce and older residents. For those interested in supporting CHR’s initiatives or learning more about our programs, please visit our website at www.SanCapCHR.org
