Community Housing and Resources (CHR) plays a vital role in making Sanibel a place where everyone can thrive. By providing affordable housing, CHR ensures that people who might otherwise be unable to live on the island have the opportunity to do so, enriching our community with diversity and offering a much-needed “hand up” to deserving individuals.
Sanibel’s economy relies heavily on the hundreds of workers who serve in Island retail and other businesses. By living on the island, these workers can avoid the stress and high costs associated with long daily commutes, allowing them to be more available and reliable employees.
Promoting social and economic diversity is a cornerstone of The Sanibel Plan. When our workforce lives within the community, everyone benefits as they actively participate in schools, organizations, churches, and community events. CHR believes that no one should be forced to leave a familiar community due to age, disability, or financial constraints.
