The Jan. 21 SanCap Chamber ribbon-cutting was double the celebration as it welcomed two family businesses, one pre-existing and the other brand new, to its business membership. The event took place at 1101 Periwinkle Way, Suite 106, on Sanibel Island – home to new The Treehouse and pre-existing Sanibel Painters, owned by husband and wife Alex and Shelby Stites.

Alex has been involved in the family painting business for more than 20 years along with his father. After his father’s passing in 2015, Alex took the reins and eventually transitioned the business to Sanibel five years ago.

“The island’s community quickly embraced his dedication to perfection, and Sanibel Painters became a trusted name known for delivering beautiful, lasting results,” said Shelby. “Joining the Sanibel Chamber is an exciting next step for Sanibel Painters. The team is excited about the new opportunities and partnerships that will emerge through the chamber and are honored to be part of such a supportive and welcoming community.”

Alex, a native of Southwest Florida, prides his company on its “level of craftsmanship, attention to detail, and integrity that goes above and beyond what is typically available in the industry.”

New to both the island and the chamber, The Treehouse Healing & Events Center “was born out of a moment of collective need—when our island, still reeling from a series of challenges, found itself yearning for community, connection, and healing,” Shelby said. “I found myself drawn not just to the physical practice of yoga, but to its transformative power to heal the mind and spirit. This inspired me to create The Treehouse—a space where people could reconnect with themselves and each other.”

The business, which opened in September 2024, has evolved from yoga instruction to its signature Sanibel sound baths and a space dedicated to both physical and mental well-being. It continues to evolve to meet the wellness needs of the community.

“We’re thrilled about the opportunity to engage with the chamber’s members, create new partnerships, and continue offering a sanctuary for mindfulness, health, and community right here on Sanibel,” Shelby said.

“As different as the two businesses are, they both have been filling important functions in the recovery of our islands from devastating physical and mental wreckage,” said John Lai, SanCap Chamber president and chief executive officer. “We welcome their dedication, integrity, and vision.”
