The Sanibel Historical Village board and committee members will conduct a special training program to get new volunteers started and to help current volunteers refresh their memories about the many historical buildings, artifacts, and stories to share with visitors. New volunteers are needed, and if anyone is interested they are more than welcome to call Executive Director Emilie Alfino at 472-4648.

The program will take place Monday, November 16, at 1:00 in Shore Haven at the Historical Village. This training will feature an overview of the village as well as a walk through the grounds.

“Our training sessions are fun and a great way to meet people,” Alfino said. “Anybody can volunteer, even if they start out without any knowledge of Sanibel history. We will teach you what you need to know and are always available to help.” Volunteers can perform a wide range of duties, from being stationed in one of the Village’s nine historical buildings, to greeting guests, to helping with exhibits, to archiving and administrative work.

Masks are required at the Sanibel Historical Museum and Village; the Village is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. It is located at 950 Dunlop Road (next to BIG ARTS). Admission is $10 for adults over 18; those under 18 and members are free. Docent-guided tours must be reserved in advance due to COVID-19, at no extra charge and based upon docent availability. There is handicap access. For information, call 472-4648 during business hours or visit
