We are proud to announce the premiere of “On Sanibel: The Hurricane Diaries,” a powerful film directed and produced by Sanibel local Laura DeBruce, at the Fort Myers Film Festival. The screening will take place at 3:00 PM on May 15 at the Sidney & Berne Davis Art Center in downtown Fort Myers.

This remarkable documentary features all-original footage captured on Sanibel and Captiva Islands, offering an intimate, local perspective on the harrowing experience of living through a devastating hurricane. Through beautiful and poignant storytelling, Laura DeBruce—a gifted local author—chronicles not just the storm’s impact, but the extraordinary resilience, hope, and unity that define our island community.

“On Sanibel: The Hurricane Diaries” is more than a record of hardship; it is a moving testament to recovery and renewal, and a celebration of the enduring spirit that brings us together in the face of adversity. This is our story, told by one of our own.

We invite you to join us for this special premiere, and to witness the inspiring journey of Sanibel through the eyes of a fellow islander.
