Sanibel residents Laurie and Bill Harkey have made a generous contribution of $500,000 to Community Housing & Resources (CHR). The funds will help CHR repair and rebuild the apartments of island workers and seniors that were damaged in the hurricane.

When asked what affordable housing means for Sanibel, Bill Harkey replied,  ‘The island cannot function without employees. We need housing for the people who are the backbone of the community. We are happy to be able to make a contribution to make that happen and to keep it going.” Laurie Harkey added that they hope to inspire others to help CHR and other nonprofits on the island.

“The money the Harkeys have generously donated to CHR is going to help the residents return to their homes as quickly as possible,” said CHR’s Executive Director, Nicole Decker-McHale. “That is our primary goal.”

Community Housing and Resources, Inc. is a 501 (c) (3) Not for Profit organization with the mission to provide affordable housing for families and individuals who work and who serve our island communities.
