For the past year, COVID has put a stop to many of our Islands’ major social gatherings. That includes the Kiwanis Club’s annual Spaghetti Dinner, normally a fixture on Island’s February calendar, which raises funds for the Kiwanis Foundation’s Scholarship Fund. To address this vacuum, the Club has come to the rescue with a new event that promises to be both fun and safe–the Kiwanis Online Silent Auction.
Kiwanis invites one and all to visit the auction website to explore some unusual items and exciting experiences, many of which will be perfect to enjoy as the COVID restrictions ease and guests start arriving looking for things to do. Auction listings include enticing resort and hotel stays, golf outings, sporting goods, fishing & sightseeing trips, artwork, custom chef-prepared dinners , a private wine tasting dinner party, home services, legal consultation, and even a rare collector’s item–a vintage 1969 Honda 350 motorcycle in pristine condition! There’s guaranteed to be something there that tickles your fancy. Or organize your friends to share a special dinner or outing.
The online auction can be reached at: www.32auctions.com/sancapkiwanisauction. The auction site is open now for browsing. Bids will be accepted starting on Friday, March 19 and the auction will be open for nine days until Sunday, March 28 at 6 PM, at which time winning bids will be determined. Bidders are encouraged to check back often as the auction progresses to see how their bids are holding up!
All proceeds from the auction will benefit the Kiwanis Foundation, which provides scholarships to Island students (residents and those whose parents work on the Islands) and grants to local youth programs. Said Kiwanis President Bill Hay: “We’re disappointed that the Club was not able to host the Spaghetti Dinner this year, but this auction event should be fun…something new, and it will help us continue our support for Island kids.”
Kiwanis thanks the major sponsors who have made the Online Auction possible, and many other Island businesses that lend their support. Major sponsors include: Cielo, Sanibel-Captiva Community Bank, Bank Of The Islands, Bailey’s, Sanibel-Captiva Trust Company, Sanibel-Captiva Beach Resorts, The Sanctuary Golf Club, Archer Hotels, Sundial Beach Resort & Spa, Billy’s Rentals, Carefree Birding, Barefoot Charley’s Painting Company, Island Sun & River Weekly, and Congress Jewelers.
