The Sanibel and Captiva communities are invited to participate in the latest SanCap Resilience community survey. It is designed for residents (full-time and seasonal), island businesses and nonprofits, and those who work on the islands but live off island. The goal is to have broad participation with as many people responding as possible.
Here is some background.
In May of 2024, SanCap Resilience launched a community-wide survey to gather feedback on the state of recovery following Hurricane Ian, as well as to understand the needs and concerns of the community at the time. Nearly 900 people completed the survey. The results of that survey are available at sancapresilience.org.
Just a few months later, Sanibel and Captiva experienced two more island-wide storm surge events with Hurricanes Helene and Milton, adding to the challenges residents and businesses were already facing.
In order to understand the impacts of those two storms, SanCap Resilience is launching a follow-up survey to update information from the first one. This updated understanding will help the group to refine future plans.
The survey should take just 8–10 minutes to complete. It is divided into sections targeting different audiences, including residents, business and nonprofit leadership, and people who work on the islands but do not live here. You’ll only complete the sections that apply to you. The survey will guide you to the appropriate sections based on your answers.
All responses are confidential and will only be reported in aggregate. Staff at FISH of SanCap are available to assist anyone who would like help completing the online survey.
By answering the questions in the survey, residents and employees on Sanibel and Captiva will help inform the future work of SanCap Resilience, which could include online resources, community educational events, solicitation of grant funding for resiliency projects, planning related to our community’s resilience, and more.
The survey can be accessed here. (https://bit.ly/45vpb4Y).
