This week at Periwinkle Park, we were honored to welcome James Evans, CEO of the Sanibel‑Captiva Conservation Foundation, for a visit to see the progress being made throughout our Park. Our General Manager, David Muench, shared how for nearly 20 years our residents and team have worked to restore native habitats by gradually removing invasive species and replanting with native vegetation. Since Hurricane Ian, that effort has accelerated, with thousands of exotics removed and meaningful restoration underway.

James highlighted how this work aligns with the Sanibel Plan, which envisions not only preserved conservation lands but private properties that also provide habitat for wildlife. From songbirds and butterflies to wading birds along the Sanibel Slough that runs through Periwinkle Park, these native plantings help support Sanibel’s identity as a sanctuary island where people and wildlife coexist.

We are proud of our residents, grateful for our partnership with SCCF, and committed to protecting the natural beauty that makes Sanibel so special. To learn more about what’s happening at Periwinkle Park, visit SanibelCamping.com
