The Sanibel-Captiva Rotary heard from Jarrod Demming, Director of Career Services at Fort Myers Technical College. Fort Myers Technical College began in 1967 as the Lee County Area Vocational Technical School and, over the years, has become the premier vocational option now known as Fort Myers Technical College. It is an accredited public & not-for-profit school on a first-come, first-served basis which received over 600 applications for their programs and filled them all within 37 minutes!

Their students attend classes on campus Monday through Friday, 8:00-2:30pm. Students have one teacher all day, and the teachers are industry professionals who teach all the subjects needed to enter a chosen trade or practice. Students graduate as they meet their seat time requirements and certifications or licenses with employment assistance, from 6 six weeks to 18 months. There are programs in Health Science, Manufacturing, Architecture and Construction, Transportation, Distribution and Logistics, Law, Public Safety and Security, Hospitality, Human Services, Energy and Information Technology. Each of these fields offers the highest certifications possible. 

Jarrod Demming is the Director of Career Services at Fort Myers Technical College. Demming is a dedicated professional in the Education Sector, with experience at both the secondary and post-secondary levels as a Career Educator, Teacher, I.T. Specialist, Project Manager, and Mentor. He is committed to guiding individuals toward impactful career opportunities across a wide spectrum of trades, from construction to healthcare, and within both the public and private sectors.
