The Sanibel Captiva Islands Chamber of Commerce recently announced the first-ever Business Resource Fair, taking place on Wednesday, September 3, 2025. This landmark event is designed to connect local business owners with the tools, resources, and partnerships they need to succeed in today’s evolving economic landscape, an idea first floated by Sanibel resident and business advisor Angi Semler Welch. Angi approached the Charitable Foundation of the Islands after hearing them speak at a Kiwanis breakfast. As CFI Executive Director Dolly Farrell explained, “I immediately brought the idea to Chamber CEO John Lai. John enthusiastically said yes and got the wheels in motion to host the event”.
The Business Resource Fair is a locally focused expo that will bring together organizations, financial institutions, and business service providers under one roof — all with the goal of supporting the uniquely independent business community of Sanibel and Captiva. Unlike many other Florida destinations, Sanibel is home to a vast number of independently owned businesses, making this event both timely and essential.
“This event is really about creating an ecosystem of support for our local businesses,” explained Semler Welch, who counsels small businesses as a part of her role as partner and business advisor with Cultivate Advisors. “We’re bringing together organizations that specialize in everything from accounting and bookkeeping to banking, recruiting, business strategy, and overall growth support. It’s about showing business owners that they don’t have to navigate these challenges alone — there are resources right here on Sanibel and Captiva that can help them succeed.”
Semler Welch also highlighted the emotional realities of entrepreneurship and the importance of seeking outside expertise.
“Being a business owner or entrepreneur can often feel very isolating,” she explained. “There’s this expectation that you should have all the answers, but the truth is, no one does. Sometimes the smartest move is outsourcing — whether that’s bookkeeping to ensure you have clean, accurate numbers, or professional marketing support to make sure your message is consistent and strategic. My hope is that business owners come to the fair with an open mind, think about the pain points they’re facing, and discover potential solutions they may not have considered before.”
CFI’s Accelerate Loan Program which has partnered with Sanibel Captiva Community Bank to highlight financing opportunities and loan programs available to small business owners will be one of the vendors. The fair will also feature presentations, one-on-one consultations, and networking opportunities to give entrepreneurs new ideas and actionable strategies for growth.
