Sanibel Captiva Community Bank is pleased to announce its gold sponsorship of the upcoming 50th anniversary of the City of Sanibel’s incorporation. The year-long celebration starts in November, with the City of Sanibel and Sanibel & Captiva Islands Chamber of Commerce co-presenting.

Nov. 5, 2024, marks the 50th anniversary of the incorporation of the City of Sanibel. A grassroots movement to save Sanibel Island from overdevelopment began in 1974. The successful incorporation was highly celebrated following a favorable citizens’ vote. The groundbreaking “Sanibel Plan” became a model for cities and Sanibel continues to follow its original purpose to maintain a city where nature comes first.

From November 2024 through December 2025, the City of Sanibel and the SanCap Chamber are planning a 13-month celebration in partnership with island businesses, nonprofit and faith-based organizations and resident groups.

“Celebrating this major milestone is a testament to the resiliency of Sanibel, its residents and businesses. As the only bank chartered on Sanibel Island, we are thrilled to sponsor the island’s 50th anniversary celebration,” said Kyle DeCicco, president and CEO of Sanibel Captiva Community Bank. “Through this celebration, we all can honor the island’s past, embrace the present and pave the way for a prosperous future for our beloved island.”

For more than 60 years, the Sanibel & Captiva Islands Chamber of Commerce has been dedicated to fostering the growth and prosperity of the business community, while nurturing the quality of life for all those who live, visit and work on the islands.
