It’s been a few months since the storm, but the Sanibel Community House has announced it is ready to start serving the community once again.  On Wednesday, March 29, the House will return to action with an evening get-together celebrating its 96th Year as Sanibel’s gathering place.  The event theme paraphrases the ‘80’s Elton John song…We’re Still Standing!”

Festivities will run from 4 pm to 7 pm.  Tickets will entitle attendees to all beverages (choice of wines, and craft beers from the Point Ybel Brewing Company), appetizers and charcuterie items.  And setting a celebratory mood will be music performed by the Marty Stokes Band.

The event will be staged in the main lobby area entrance veranda, small conference room and rest rooms of the Community House and in tents at the East Entrance,  an area being described as “Phase I” of the Community House restoration…plenty of space for folks to gather for an early-evening social.  Later in the summer additional meeting rooms and kitchen areas will be added as “Phase 2” as reconstruction continues.

Executive Director Teresa Riska-Hall expressed deep gratitude for SCA’s members, donors and volunteers who have stepped up to support the recovery, giving the organization a major push for the work that needs to be done.  Said Riska-Hall: “It’s sad that we have to rebuild so soon after our 2016 renovation, but The Community House has always been community-supported since its opening in 1927, and this time is no different!” Reconstruction plans are moving ahead well.

Please join us in this opportunity to reconnect with friends and share your Hurricane Ian experiences, while supporting restoration of this historic island facility.  Special souvenir prints of the Sanibel Light House, numbered and signed by the artist Leoma Lovegrove, will also be on offer, along with special “Rebuild” T-shirts.  Perfect gifts to remind friends and family that our island is a “true survivor”.

Tickets are $50 per person and can be obtained online at the Community House website (www.sanibelcommunityhouse.com) or by calling the office at 239-472-2155.
