Sanibel Captiva Business Women’s Association (SCBWA) recognizes scholarship and continuing education recipients at its September luncheon.
SCBWA started its scholarship recipient search in July and awarded its scholarships in September. Monies for the scholarship fund were raised at the Annual Fundraiser last September and will hold its Second Annual Fundraiser on October 4th, 2024 at Cielo Restaurant from 5-8 pm. This annual event helps fulfill the groups mission for scholarship and continuing education efforts.
SCBWA awarded 10 applicants with scholarships. The recipients include Lori Adams, Scotty Lynn Kelly, Rachel Kelly, Dr. Danielle Kreis, Brittany Laster, Skyler Lowden, Claire Schreiber, Jianna Senkeleski, Eden Sherman and Laurin Van Olst. Seven of the applicants attended the SCBWA September Luncheon to be formally recognized and were able to share how SCBWA is assisting in career and educational advancement opportunities.
Lori Adams is co-owner and operator of the Sanibel Captiva Guide and Nick Adams Photography. Her scholarship will go towards a degree in Digital Marketing from the University of South Florida.
Scotty Lynn Kelly is the City of Sanibel’s City Clerk. Her scholarship will go towards a 20-month Florida Certified Professional Clerk program at Florida State University’s Institute of Government. This program focuses on leadership, governance, management, and strategy.
Rachel Kelly works at the City of Sanibel Recreation Center as well as Brightside Travel in Ft Myers. Her scholarship will go towards Travel Agent Training from the Florida Gulf Coast University Educational Training and Partnerships program.
Dr. Danielle Kreis is a specialist veterinary intern at CROW. Her scholarship will go towards her attendance at the National Wildlife Rehabilitators Association annual symposium and participate as a visiting veterinarian at Zoo Miami Sea Turtle Hospital.
Brittany Laster is the Education and Outreach Manager at CROW Clinic for the Rehabilitation of Wildlife. Her scholarship will allow her to attend the Association of Zoos and Aquariums Continuing Education Seminars on the Principles of Ambassador Animal Management and Conservation Learning in Leadership.
Skyler Lowden holds a Bachelor of Architecture degree from University of Miami with a focus on Ecological Architecture and minors in Art and Urban Studies. Her scholarship will go towards the Painters Master’s program at the Royal College of Art in Battersea, UK.
Claire Schreiber is a Sanibel Island resident and cancer survivor. Claire Scheiber aspires to attend medical school specializing in pediatric oncology.
Jianna Senkeleski is the owner of Sanibel Sprout. Her scholarship will go towards a degree in Digital Marketing at Florida Gulf Coast University.
Eden Sherman is the Sanibel Public Library’s Circulation Manager. Her scholarship will go towards a master’s degree in Library and Information Science at Louisiana State University.
Laurin Van Olst is the Store Manager at On-Island. Her scholarship will go towards a master’s degree in psychology from Southern New Hampshire University.

Sanibel Captiva Business Women’s Association is dedicated to empowering and supporting the women who work and live on the islands through networking, mentorship, continuing education and career advancement.
SCBWA aims to serve the community by offering an inclusive, supportive and diverse group of women supporting women. Our focus is the advancement of women’s career development targeted to workers, aspiring workers and the residents of Sanibel and Captiva. The group meets every third Tuesday of the month at various businesses and restaurants at noon.
