Coming up on March 18, at the Community House, the Historical Museum and Village is premiering a new documentary on Hurricane Ian. Watching the video actually seems to be healing rather than traumatic—a catharsis for Islanders, families, and friends who have suffered and continue to struggle.

Ralph Woodring once said of early Sanibel, “neighbors helped neighbors helped neighbors.” Rather than focusing on nature’s wrath, this documentary centers on the generosity of human nature and our extraordinary community spirit.

This year as the City celebrates fifty years of existence, Storm Stories from Sanibel illustrates the depth of our unique community’s roots. Near the end of the work, John Lai somberly, but sagely observes “what Ian did was put the unity back in community.”
