The Tarpon Bay Recreation area’s boat ramp will be temporarily closed starting Tuesday June 1st for motorized launches. Tarpon Bay’s parking lot is currently experiencing renovation and as a result access to the ramp will be temporarily prohibited until this section of the project is complete. “The next phase of the project entails laying concrete for ADA accessibility and to create a more accessible path to the facility,” explained Project Leader of Southwest Florida’s Refuge Complex, Kevin Godsea. The estimated completion date is June 15th.  Non-motorized vessels such as kayaks, canoes and standup paddleboards will still be allowed to launch from Tarpon Bay’s beach area.

Tarpon Bay Explorers, the concession to the J.N. “Ding” Darling National Wildlife Refuge and current occupant of the recreation area, will remain open while the parking lot experiences improvement. “We appreciate the publics patience and understanding during this time of transition. We are hoping to complete this phase as soon as possible so there will be no limitations to the public or our concession partner, Tarpon Bay Explorers,” stated Godsea.
