As Florida tourism recovers from a couple years of crippling hurricanes, Visit Florida President and CEO Dana Young will inform members of the SanCap Chamber about the current state of the industry at its Oct. 25 business luncheon from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Pink Shell Beach Resort & Marina on Fort Myers Beach. Comcast and Clive Daniel Home sponsor the luncheon meeting.
Young has led Florida’s official destination marketing organization since January 2019, in partnership with its board of directors and the statewide tourism industry. Throughout her career, the sixth-generation Floridian has served in leadership positions, working to cultivate and protect Florida’s exceptional business climate and world-class quality of life.
With an undergraduate degree in political science from Florida State University and a law and public policy degree from the University of Virginia, she has represented a broad spectrum of businesses, landowners, and individuals in areas of regulatory compliance, permitting, zoning, and administrative law proceedings as an attorney in Tampa.
Young served in the Florida House from 2010 through 2016, rising to Majority Leader for the 2015 and 2016 legislative sessions. In 2016, she was elected to the Florida Senate, where she represented parts of western Hillsborough County for two years. In addition to her current duties as Visit Florida president and CEO, she is involved in numerous tourism industry organizations and is an active member of the U.S. Travel Association’s Executive Board.
“Dana is a tested and proven tourism leader and expert,” said chamber president and CEO John Lai, who serves as second vice chair for the Visitor Florida board of directors. “At a time like this, we look forward to hearing strategy for industry recovery here locally and across the state where hurricane damage has been felt in past years.”
