The SanCap Chamber has announced Matt Devitt, chief meteorologist for WINK News, will appear at the 2024 Luminary Stroll on Friday, Dec. 6, as guest of honor. Luminary-goers will find him stationed at Tahitian Gardens broadcasting the weather forecast from 4 to 7 p.m.
“One of Southwest Florida’s most highly respected broadcast meteorologists, Matt has been a local celebrity long before his guidance during recent monster storms like Irma, Ian, and Milton,” said John Lai, chamber president and chief executive officer. “Our other Luminary celebrity, Santa Claus, will join him at 5:30 for live broadcasting.”
Devitt graduated from the Pennsylvania State University in 2010 with a degree in meteorology and began his professional career in “Tornado Alley” with KTEN-TV. After forecasting in Arkansas and Georgia for several years, he joined WINK News in his home state in 2016.
Devitt heads the Weather Authority department and mentors the WINK team of meteorologists and interns from across the country. He is a member of the American Meteorological Society and the National Weather Association. In addition to delivering hurricane and school talks, he is an active member of the community, especially with the American Cancer Society, the Make-A-Wish Foundation, the Multiple Sclerosis Center of Southwest Florida, and Ronald McDonald House Charities.
