Following the successful “Peek at the Unique,” the fundraising tour held March 15, the Zonta Club of Sanibel-Captiva turns its attention to service.  The club’s first Community Collection Day of the year is set for Saturday, April 12, 9 am – noon at the Sanibel Rec Center, 3880 San-Cap Road.

The annual event benefits local non-profits with which the club has a service relationship, and whose work builds better lives for women and girls.

Bring gently-used and new items for these groups to use in their mission to empower women, a goal shared with Zonta.  Clean out closets and easily drop off donations to help women in our community:  Zonta members will assist with unloading.

With just three organizations the focus of this year’s collection, here is a partial list of requested items:

SalusCare:  A Fort Myers non-profit providing mental health and substance use treatment programs.  Needs include women’s clothing, personal hygiene items, kitchen items and wall art.

Healing Stitches:  Working with underserved and abused Hispanic women, a therapeutic program offering social services, education, health and outreach.  Needs include scissors and rolling fabric cutters.

Rethreaded:  A Jacksonville organization that helps survivors of human trafficking to heal by creating clothing and accessories made from recycled t-shirts.  Needs are old and previously loved t-shirts.

Since donations are tax-deductible per IRS rules, Zonta member will be on hand to collect donations and issue tax receipts.  Visit www.zontasancap.com for information.
