The second Sunday of November will mark the beginning of the 73rd season of Sunday worship services at the Historic Captiva Chapel by the Sea.  Inviting all to attend the Chapel’s inter-denominational services is Rev. Larry Marshall, who with his wife Rosemary, will begin their third year of a special four year ministry.  We are very happy to have them return.    The setting and style of Captiva Chapel by the Sea opens possibilities for connections that are deep and nurturing.  It lies right along the Gulf of Mexico.  The gentle breezes off the Gulf, soaring ospreys and sea gulls, the gathering of people from different states, countries and faith traditions, the sounds of sacred music, all contribute to the soul-inspiring and spiritually uplifting experience.  The Chapel is said by many to be, in the words of Celtic spirituality, a ‘thin place’ where God is uniquely present.  The Chapel by the Sea is not just a cute little Church, “it is a place where God lives.”

Beginning November 14, 2021 and through the end of April 2022, in addition to the 11:00AM Sunday morning worship services, the Chapel is open daily for visitors to stop by and learn how this early-1900’s school house became this place where people come to pray and meditate, be baptized, join in marriage, renew wedding vows, and become motivated to assist humanity through various ministry and social outreach endeavors.   In 2015 The Chapel Cemetery and The Captiva School/Chapel by the Sea were recognized on the National Register of Historic Places.

Thankfully, with the dramatic lowering of the hospitalizations in the region due to COVID, it has given us hope that we can resume worshiping within the Chapel.  We ask when entering the Chapel building, where Pastor Marshall will be preaching, we are recommending that masks be worn for that indoor worship.   For those choosing to worship outside, we will continue to space the outdoor chairs to provide some distance between couples, singles and/or families.   No masking will be suggested for outside attendees.    Our Sunday Worship Service will be videotaped and will be added to our website and Facebook page by mid-afternoon each Sunday.
