The Sanibel Historical Museum & Village will take part in “Museum Store Sunday,” sponsored by the Museum Store Association. The event is November 29, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Entrance to the store is free, but the museum and village will be closed.
“We will have a wide variety of merchandise for sale,” Executive Director Emilie Alfino said, “from jewelry and hand-crafted pine needle baskets, Calusa reproductions, cookbooks, history books, toys, and more.”
Museum Store Sunday is a global annual event to help museum stores increase community engagement and advocate for nonprofit retail while showcasing the products unique to each store involved. More than 1,200 stores representing all 50 states are participating. The event follows Black Friday and Small Business Saturday, and precedes Cyber Monday. “It’s been a challenging year, to say the least, and we’re hoping to do our part to help keep the shopping going during this popular weekend,” Alfino said.
Stuart Hata, co-chair of the national Museum Store Sunday Committee said, “Museum Store Sunday is our global annual day of advocacy celebrating how museum stores are resources for local communities and their visitors.” Hata believes it is important to show support for cultural institutions and their stores and to patronize museums.

The Sanibel Historical Museum and Village is a nonprofit organization formed with the mission to preserve, share, and celebrate Sanibel’s history. The Village is open Tuesdays through Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Masks and social distancing are required. Due to COVID-19, guided tours are available by reservation only in groups of no less than six and no more than 10. The Sanibel Historical Village is located at 950 Dunlop Road (next to BIG ARTS) and there is handicap access. Admission is $10 for adults (18 and over). Members and children are free.
