The Doc Ford’s Invitational “King Of The Rock” Golf Tournament Set For April 20
In a major sign that the Islands are coming back from “hurricane hiatus”, the SanCap Kiwanis Club will host a major golf tournament on April 20. All local golfers are invited to participate in the Doc Ford’s Invitational “King Of The Rock” Tournament, to be held at newly re-opened Dunes Golf & Tennis Club. Entrants will enjoy 18 holes of tournament golf in a spectacular setting, range balls, and lunch following the round, plus prizes and trophies awarded to the top finishers. All proceeds from the event will benefit the SanCap Kiwanis Foundation Scholarship Fund, which provides support to deserving local high school grads headed for college and professional training programs.
The tournament will be structured as a single round, two-person scramble, with teams and flights organized into a Men’s Division and a Ladies Division. Awards will be made for flight winners with a verified GHIN handicap. Overall tournament champion must come from the Championship Flight (players may request to be placed in the Championship Flight if they wish).
Assignment of teams and flights will be announced at a gathering to be held at the Dunes Clubhouse on Friday, April 19 at 6:00 PM, the evening before the Tournament. All participating golfers are invited to attend the Announcement event; food will be served but drinks will be paid for by golfers.
Entrance forms may be downloaded from the Kiwanis website at: https://sanibelkiwanis.org/ (https://sanibelkiwanis.org/) or obtained at the Dunes Golf Shop. Entry fee is $150 per golfer (to be included with entry form). Entrance forms and fees may be returned to Chris Pais at the Dunes Golf Shop (239-472-3355) or to Eric Pfeifer at Pfeifer Realty Group (239-472-0004).
In addition, the Tournament offers sponsorship opportunities to individuals and organizations who would like to be associated with the event and to support the Kiwanis Club’s Scholarship Fund. Corporate sponsorships are available at the $1,000 and $2,500 levels. Hole Sponsorships are $100 per hole (3 holes for $250 or 5 holes for $400). All sponsors will receive signage recognition at the event.
In organizing the event for the Kiwanis Club, Co-Chairs Eric Pfeifer and Jason Smith have heard strong community interest from the local golfing community. Said Pfeifer: “People love to play 18 in the wonderful tropical environment that our Islands provide this time of year. The Doc Ford’s King Of The Rock gives them that opportunity in spades, and also the chance to see how they stack up against others in a friendly competitive situation.” Jason Smith added: “Our community also sees this as a chance to support a good cause while they enjoy a day on the golf course. There is a real appreciation of the importance of the Kiwanis Scholarship Program in advancing the development of our young people.”
