Members of the San Cap Motor Club gathered on Sunday for their monthly cruise in at Periwinkle Place Shops. The meeting was filled with both excitement and emotion because members Todd Roberts & Roger Grogman unveiled a beautiful memorial commerating the many lost cars from Hurricane Ian. The piece is a working “expired” parking meter with a listing of over 50 cars! The artist behind the work is a friend of Todd’s, said Roger. “Ray Drea, who spent most of his career as Head Stylist at Harley Davidson, was inspired by Todds story of the loss of his cars, and the the idea was conceived.” But we didn’t stop there, Roger explained, “we decided to honor the founder of the Club, who has kept the club going even after we lost so many cars, proving that it is the people not just the cars that make the club.” The guys surprised Scot with an original Ray Drea watercolor painting of his ’68 Olds 442, top down and his arm around Melissa watching a sunset on our beautiful Sanibel Causeway. All Scot could say was “Wow!”
