Sanibel Captiva Community Bank recently supported the Southwest Florida Chapter of Blessings in a Backpack’s inaugural Get Fed Up fundraising event in early February as title sponsor. In addition to raising funds, the event was a celebration of the organization’s 10th anniversary serving children of Southwest Florida.

More than $150,000 was raised and all the proceeds will support the Blessings in a Backpack program feeding Southwest Florida public school children on the weekends. Every Friday afternoon, children at participating schools receive backpacks filled with kid-friendly, ready-to-eat items. Schools that participate in the program report that test scores, reading skills, positive behavior, general health and attendance improve dramatically as a result of children getting the nourishment they need.

The Southwest Florida Chapter of Blessings in a Backpack supplies hunger-free weekends to elementary school children in the Fort Myers and Naples areas. For more information, visit swfl.blessingsinabackpack.org.
