The gallery is inviting art lovers to a reception on Thursday, January 11, from 5:00-7:00 pm. The
Hirdie Girdie is celebrating it’s iconic 30 year history on Sanibel. There will be wine, lite bites, and
live music by Bob Housler.
The Hirdie Girdie gallery opened in 1994. The name, Hirdie Girdie, comes from an old English
expression meaning topsy-turvy. The building is painted in bright colors to reflect this theme. It was
formed as a co-op gallery for local artists. The artists have created an eclectic collection of locally
themed art. Much of the artwork presented is reflective of our beautiful Sanibel environment. The
gallery exhibits a wide variety of objects including paintings, drawings, photography, sculpture,
ceramics, glass, wood work and jewelry.
Currently there are 16 members of the Hirdie Girdie co-op. Once a month there’s a guest artist. As a
co-op gallery the members work as a team to maintain the gallery’s business. They work in the
gallery in sales, assisting customers, and in creating their own exhibits inside the gallery. There is no
middleman between the artists and their collectors. The gallery reflects the uniqueness of the
artists’s themselves. Every work of art shown in the gallery is a one-of-a-kind original.
At our January 11 reception we also celebrate January guest artist, Janine Primus, and new
member photographer, Quinn Sedam.
The gallery is open 7 days a week. 11am-5pm.
On Jan, 11 reception we also celebrate January guest artist, Janine Primus, and new member
