SCBWA will host its April Luncheon on Tuesday, April 16th at Cielo Restaurant from 11:30 am – 1:00 pm with Dr. Danielle Basora as the featured speaker.

Dr. Basora, the newest doctor at the Lee Health – Sanibel office,  will be speaking to the group on the topic of health screenings in modern medicine. During this presentation she will talk about the changes in screenings and health guidelines within the past five years. This will mostly pertain to the topic of cardiovascular and breast health, but also on genetics.

Dr. Basora was born and raised in Manistee, MI. Growing up she enjoyed skiing and spending summer days swimming in Lake Michigan. Her youngest brother was born with a congenital heart condition, which inspired her to pursue a life in medicine. Dr. Basora attended the University of Florida for her undergraduate degree, majoring in food science and human nutrition. She earned her medical degree from the University of Miami, then returned to Gainesville to complete her residency in Family Medicine. She practiced Family Medicine in her hometown in Michigan for six years before moving to Sanibel with her husband and four children in 2023. During that time, she completed additional training in wound care and hyperbaric medicine as well as addiction medicine for medication assisted treatment (MAT) of opioid use disorder.

Dr. Basora states “It is a privilege to join the Sanibel community and provide care on the island, for the people of the island.”

Her special interests include women’s health, preventative medicine, diabetes, chronic pain, mood disorders, and wound care. In her free time, she enjoys distance running and playing on the beach with her family.

Sanibel Captiva Business Women’s Association is dedicated to empowering and supporting the women who work and live on the islands through networking, mentorship, continuing education and career advancement.

SCBWA aims to serve the community by offering an inclusive, supportive and diverse group of women supporting women. Our focus is the advancement of women’s career development targeted to workers, aspiring workers and the residents of Sanibel and Captiva. The group meets every third Tuesday of the month at various businesses and restaurants at noon.
